Nowadays, electric trucks are already a reality, and as a consequence, the benefits brought by the use of electric vehicles have also increased. In this article, we will point out the main details of electric trucks, so that the reader can learn more about this new technology.

Want to know much more about the new technology that makes the creation of electric trucks possible? Come with us and we will explain everything you need to know!

What are electric trucks?

Transporting cargo using trucks is a necessity, not only in Brazil, but all over the world. Many truck drivers spend hours on the road with their trucks, transporting all types of cargo all over the world. This abundant use of trucks means that this type of vehicle needs to be increasingly improved, in order to bring large-scale benefits to the planet and people.

One of the major problems related to the widespread use of trucks is pollution. A few years ago, the only fuel available for these vehicles was Diesel S500, which is extremely polluting. With the development of technology, it was possible to improve the quality of the fuel, and today it is possible to find Diesel S10 and even BioDiesel on the market, versions that are much better than the first.

But fortunately, development does not stop, because even though the new versions of Diesel are better than the first, they are still polluting fuels, and the goal is to minimize this pollution as much as possible.

In order to minimize pollution and high fuel costs, electric trucks have emerged as an alternative. These vehicles are similar in appearance to trucks powered by petroleum derivatives, but with much more advanced technology.

In short, electric trucks are powered by electricity, using lithium batteries to provide the necessary charge for the vehicle. Like most electronics, trucks must also be charged at the outlet, and their operating time will depend on how much battery power the truck can charge.

Demystifying information about electric trucks

Do electric trucks have low autonomy?

Many people may think that electric trucks will have problems related to autonomy, since they are usually much heavier vehicles than cars and also, for the most part, they usually travel longer distances to transport cargo. These two points, in fact, require a much more powerful battery than the battery of electric cars, but fortunately this technology is already possible. So, it is a matter of choosing the electric truck model that has the autonomy necessary to meet the demand for deliveries, which can vary from product to product and location to location.

Can electric trucks short circuit in heavy rain or floods?

For both trucks and electric cars, this is a concern for many people. However, this possibility can be ruled out, considering that electric vehicles are all designed with complete sealing, and in addition, they undergo water tests to ensure that this type of problem does not occur.

Are diesel trucks more powerful?

Given the importance of trucks for transporting cargo, electric trucks have emerged as an alternative to reduce pollution and get around fuel prices. To do so, the truck must have the same or greater power than diesel-powered trucks, as it must be able to carry all types of cargo in the same way. And that is exactly what happens: electric trucks are developed without losing power and, in most cases, even with greater power than diesel-powered trucks.

Is this the end of diesel trucks?

Although this is the main objective of developing electric trucks, this goal is still far from reality. This is mainly because there are still no electric trucks for all types of transport that are supplied by diesel trucks. Further development of technology is still needed so that major changes and replacements can happen.

Another important point that ensures that this is not the end of diesel trucks concerns the price of electric trucks. The first electric truck in Brazil (e-Delivery), launched by Volkswagen, cost almost one million reais (at the time of its launch). Therefore, it is possible to expect that the more advanced the technology, the higher the prices will be.

Advantages of electric trucks

Economy

Calculating the average prices of diesel and electricity in Brazil, it is estimated that refueling with electricity costs 50% less than refueling with fossil fuels, which is undoubtedly a huge saving for truck owners.

Reduced Environmental Impact

Since there is no fuel burning during the operation of an electric truck, there is also no elimination of polluting gases that are harmful to the environment. Of course, the production of electricity also has environmental impacts, however, there are less harmful ways of producing electricity, and with the development of more electric vehicles, these means should be explored further.

Performance

The performance of an electric truck on the streets promises to be much better than that of a diesel-powered truck. This is because the technology of the entire electric truck system is much more advanced than that of other trucks, meaning that the changes are not only related to the type of fuel supply, but also to the entire performance of the vehicle.
