What is Premium Gasoline?
When we come across the name Premium, we have the feeling that using this gasoline will turn your car into a Formula 1 car. However, that is not exactly the case. Premium gasoline is a different type of fuel, generally intended for sports cars manufactured specifically to handle such gasoline. However, its use has become increasingly common, although scarce in Brazil. Generally, the cars that are compatible with Premium Gasoline are imported sports cars, but you can check whether your car is compatible by checking your car’s manual.
But after all, what differentiates premium gasoline from regular gasoline or even additive gasoline? Read our article on Regular and additive gasoline by clicking here. Premium gasoline has a higher octane rating than the others, that is, it is more resistant to high temperatures than the others, allowing for better engine performance. In other words, the higher the octane rating of the fuel, the better the performance of the car. Premium gasoline has a quantity of 91 IAD units (Anti-Knock Index), compared to 87 IAD units for regular or additive gasoline, second only to Podium gasoline.
Is it worth paying more for Premium gasoline?
Since premium gasoline has more benefits than regular and additive gasoline, and consequently higher production costs, its price will certainly be higher than these two. In the last paragraph, it was clear that the difference in IAD between Premium and Regular or Additive gasoline is only 4 IAD units, so is it worth paying more?
Just like premium gasoline, premium gasoline also contains detergent fuels, which are responsible for cleaning the engine, and therefore has an advantage when compared to regular gasoline, which does not contain any type of detergent additive.
Now, deciding between premium gasoline and premium gasoline will depend on the vehicle you have. If your car is suitable for Premium Gasoline and you use regular or premium gasoline, its performance will be drastically affected. However, if your car is not compatible with Premium gasoline, using it will not bring any benefit, and you will end up paying more for nothing.
Where can I find Premium Gasoline?
Not all gas stations sell premium gasoline. In addition, different gas station brands have different names for premium gasoline. At Shell stations, for example, you can find Premium under the name V-Power Racing. At Ipiranga stations, you can find it under the name Octapro. To be more certain, we recommend that you go to a gas station you trust and ask about Premium Gasoline, so you will know what it is called at that gas station and will be able to locate it more easily.
What is the price of Premium Gasoline?
Like other fuels, the price of Premium gasoline also varies constantly in Brazil. On average, its price can be 20% more than regular gasoline. This percentage, however, is not seen as a rule, as the price of premium gasoline can change from retailer to retailer and in short periods of time. Therefore, if you are interested in purchasing Premium, we recommend once again looking for a gas station you trust to get a quote.
What is Podium gasoline?
Created around the year 2000, Podium gasoline is considered the best gasoline, not only in Brazil, but in the world. Its IAD (Anti-Knock Index) units reach an astonishing 97, ahead of all other gasolines sold in Brazil and other countries.
Its highly innovative technology provides greater protection to the components responsible for the vehicle’s combustion, in addition to working with so-called “super additives”, which clean the engine and ensure greater efficiency.
Podium gasoline is a much less polluting fuel than other gasolines, as it has much lower sulfur emission rates, around 30 ppm (read more about ppm by clicking here). Therefore, its use promises not only personal benefits, but also global benefits. However, its use is also recommended for vehicles whose engine can capture a higher octane rating (usually imported sports cars), since using it in a vehicle with a weaker engine will only be a waste of money.
Where can I find Podium gasoline?
Unlike Premium gasoline, Podium gasoline can only be found at Petrobras (BR) gas stations, as it is considered “Petrobras’ Premium Gasoline”. However, not all gas stations in the network have Podium. If you want to buy it, we recommend that you try to contact the gas stations in the network before looking for it.
How much does Podium gasoline cost?
Just like Premium gasoline, it is difficult to define the exact price of Podium Gasoline, as fuel prices in Brazil change very frequently. However, to give you an idea, Podium gasoline costs on average 40% more than regular gasoline.
So, which is better, Podium gasoline or Premium Gasoline?
In all cases, the best fuel will be the one that best meets your needs. If you have an older car with a low-powered engine, neither Podium gasoline nor Premium Gasoline will have much effect on your car, and the benefits will be similar to those brought by the use of additive gasoline, for example.

However, if your car is a newer model, equipped with an engine for higher octane ratings, using regular gasoline or even additive gasoline will result in a loss of performance, which is unfavorable for the car.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that, if you have any questions, you consult your vehicle’s manual, which will certainly contain information on the best fuel for your car. If you cannot find the manual, or still have questions, seek out a professional in the area to guide you.
